E S S E N T I A L BMW ROADSTERS & CABRIOLETS
During the 1950s BMW liked to be known as 'the visiting card of high society'. Today the claim has even more validity, for BMW surely ranks as one of the great post-war industrial success stories of Europe, its cars desired and respected like never before. BMW's polished image, however, has been nurtured over many years, and the roadster and cabriolet landmarks in its history - all of them truly glamorous products - have played a leading role. The current Z3 is just the latest in a long line of great cars...
In this book Eberhard Kittler explores the background of all the soft-top BMWs. The four key roadster models - 328, 507, Z1 and Z3 - are the focus of his attention, meriting lengthy chapters that include driving impressions and detailed descriptions of design, development and specification. Along the way, though, he examines the other open BMWs: the numerous pre-war models, the 'Baroque Angel' 501/502 family, the elegant 503, the '02' versions and the three generations of 3-series cars are all covered. Throughout this story, the author's immense enthusiasm and knowledge shine brightly.
All this is 'Essential' information for the enthusiast, whether newly interested or more knowledgeable. Illustrated with a generous mix of colour and black-and-white photographs, including specially commissioned shots, this is an 'Essential' item for the motoring bookshelf.
Eberhard Kittler, 40, left behind his early career as a building site engineer to become deputy editor of the German classic car magazine Oldtimer-Markt for eight years. Equally at home behind the wheel of classic and modern cars, he has recently joined the staff of MOT magazine in Stuttgart. He is very active in German classic car circles, and has taken part in the Mille Miglia and the Tour de France. He has contributed articles to many German and British magazines, and his four previous books include two on BMW subjects - one on microcars and the other on the 503 and 507 models.
