ABOUT
INTRODUCTION
It is hard to believe that it was twenty years ago that we produced our
first Morris Oxford anniversary book - 50th Anniversary of the
Forgotten Classic.
In 2018 we celebrated another milestone, the seventieth anniversary,
and most of the restored cars featured in 1998 are still with us today.
In fact a number of new restorations have bolstered the ranks of the
survivors.
The history of the development and production of the Morris Oxford
Series MO has been covered in other publications and it will only be
briefly mentioned in this book.
However, we have included some of the production and identification
information from our earlier publications. In this book we are again
celebrating some of the survivors, with stories from their owners.
SERIES MO PRODUCTION
The first pre-production MO was completed on 27th April 1948, after
almost four years of planning. On 23rd ]une 1948 the first production
line car was completed.
During the following six years a grand total of 160,482 cars and
travellers were built, with only slight variations to the basic
design.
One interesting car was SMO 169, included in the experimental batch it
was completed on 28th March 1950 as a tourer. It was renumbered 500 on
23rd ]uly 1952 and then sold off secondhand.
The last saloon was completed on 18th February 1954 and the last
traveller on 25th March that same year. In addition a total of 43,600
commercial vehicles were also built.
The first commercial appeared on 16th March 1950,and the last not until
28th September 1956. The MO body shell was also used for the Morris
Six, Wolseley 6/80 and 4/50.
