         Unique in history, design and character, the VW Beetle was a survivor in a class
         of its own. It has remained a legend to this day and commands a following that
         distinguishes it as the cult car par excellence.
          I am therefore delighted to offer Beetle enthusiasts an intriguing collection of
         VW adverts gleaned from British magazines, from the earliest post-war appearances
         in Autocar and Motor till the end of production. These have been prefaced by suitable
         extracts from a typical early sales brochure which is as charming as the car itself.
          This collection is intended to complement the comprehensive range of road test
         compilations published by Brooklands Books.
          I sincerely hope readers will enjoy this nostalgic collection of period material.
