            This comprehensive Service Manual has been produced to  assist Austin Distributors and Dealers in the efficient servicing and  maintenance of the A40 range of models.
 
            All the major component assemblies are described and detailed instructions are given for the correct dismantling, assembling and adjusting of these parts.  Where practicable details are also given of those parts which should normally be checked for wear when a component is stripped and it should be here emphasised that only genuine Austin parts must be used to replace those found unfit for further service.
 
            The information in this manual is correct for the complete range of A40 models produced prior to the date shown on page I. Modifications necessary to cover any later models will be included in subsequent editions of the manual as issued.
 
            Though the Service Manual is produced primarily for Austin Distributors and Dealers, owners of the A40 can purchase a copy, for their own information, direct from an Austin Distributor or from The Advertising Depariment, The Austin Motor Company Limited, Longbridge, Birmingham, England.
