ABOUT
Between 1958 and 1992 seven British drivers have won motor racing's supreme honour, the Formula One World Championship, a total of 11 times, an achievement unmatched by any other nation. Their deeds have been chronicled many times, but this book offers much more than an explanation of what happened to them on the race tracks.
CHAMPIONS! takes a close and critical look at these `super seven' as people, not just as drivers who between them won no less than 115 of the 532 Grands Prix staged during the first 43 years of the World Championship, another international record.
They are examined through the words of two authors, both of whom have spent many years working in the Grand Prix field in the role of motor racing journalist. CHRISTOPHER HILTON, already the author of several best-selling driver biographies, has been responsible for the bulk of the manuscript and has augmented his own commentary with the views and comments of many other motorsports people who either raced against or were closely associated with the seven drivers during their racing careers. JOHN BLUNSDEN has added a personal viewpoint, having witnessed and known all seven drivers when they were at the height of their fame.
Not surprisingly, they all emerge as people of exceptional ability, driven by a burning determination to succeed whenever they climbed into a racing car's cockpit. Yet out of it, they were surprisingly different people.
