 ABOUT

Hillclimbing and Sprinting - collectively known as Speed Eventing - is one of the most popular ways of getting into UK motor sport. Long-term motor sport competitors and enthusiasts, Phil Short and Steve Wilkinson, have answered a long-standing demand with a book that tells would-be competitors how to get started, how to improve their skills and where to find the events. For existing competitors, there's detailed driving advice on the top courses, many interviews with competitors - including the current Hillclimb Champion - and essential information about venues, constructors, suppliers, the major Series, clubs, schools, websites, magazines and forums, plus over 150 colour pictures and illustrations of this exciting and accessible form of motor sport.

Features:

  • How to get started in even the humblest of saloons.
  • How to keep the costs down and the fun up.
  • How to get the most out of the experience.

About Phil Short

Phil Short is well-known as a rally man with 17 international victories to his credit, as a successful co-driver to several top drivers and has written a book Rally Co-driving on the subject. Subsequently, he became a Rally Team Manager at the highest level with an unprecedented 60 WRC wins to date, has also turned his hand to Hillclimbing and Sprinting, gaining numerous class wins and records at the wheel of his modified production Mini. Phil, who lives in Ilkley, West Yorkshire, is married to Lyn and they have two sons, Simon and Andrew. Steve Wilkinson was introduced to motor sport as a young boy by his father, Les. Concentrating on Speed Events from the mid-1980s, he was invited to write reports and take photographs for the HSA's Speedscene magazine in 1991. From the mid-1990s Steve covered Speed Events for Motorsport News and Autosport as a freelance photo journalist.
