A NEW REVISED EDITION of OPTIMISM by Dick Willis has been published It has many updates and featuring over 100 of our most notable Aussie specials of the 1950s and early 1960s. Many of you will have secured a previous edition but it is now 8 years since the first edition was produced and much has happened in the meantime.

OITIMISM because the creators of these great Aussie specials firmly believed, because of their ingenuity, they could create a better product than available from the European factories or in many cases, at a cost more affordable to them.

Many of these cars showed evidence of ingenious design, constructors utilising available components or, if necessary making them, often following the leads of European or American competition designs. As time moved on, Jaguar and overhead valve V8 engines provided increased power, while motorcycle power plants were modified to suit early 500cc specials. In some cases a complete engines were designed and built from scratch.
