ABOUT
This book is a tribute to an extraordinary car, a car so influential that it changed the face of motoring forever. Between these covers the reader will find the complete story of the Beetle from inception in prewar Germany to the beginning of mass-production then, step-by-step, through more than five decades of evolution to the last bastion of Beetle production in Mexico. Uniquely, this book also includes 21 feature sections each detailing a milestone model in words and pictures. Numerous sidebars and panels describe Beetle facts, feats and advertising, and give interesting social commentary. An extensive section on the evolution of the Beetle Cabriolet rounds off the coverage and makes this the Complete Book of the Beetle.
Richard Copping
Richard learned to drive in a Beetle and has owned one, or more, ever since. He still uses a Beetle on a daily basis, covering over 20,000 miles a year. The owner, since new, of one of the last 300 Beetles produced for the British market, Richard also derives great pleasure from a 1960 standard model with 'crash' gearbox and cable brakes. A contours entrant and judge for many years, Richard has been a member of the Historic Volkswagen Club since 1983, Editor of The Historic VIN magazine since 1995 and - writing about classic Volkswagens - a regular contributor to Total VW magazine.
