The success of a racing driver depends heavily upon the equipment at
his disposal. This pioneering Race Tech volume explores the intriguing
world of technology for faster and safer driving. Winners demand the best
in control and safety equipment and these days there is more choice than
ever before. This study unravels the fascinating subject of the driver's
environment, covering everything from clutchless control to the latest
in fire fighting equipment. Braking, gear shifting, throttle and steering
systems come under scrutiny, as do all aspects of clothing and on-board
safety systems. The scope of the text acknowledges that driver cooling
and communications play a vital role in modern racing, as do engine instrumentation
and tyre monitoring.
Nor are driver support systems such as seating and lighting overlooked.
It all adds up to a host of vital information for all those interested
in the world of motoring sport: drivers, mechanics, car builders and general
enthusiasts alike.
