~FOREWORD
Amina Chatwin’s account of Cheltenham's Ornamental Ironwork is a a-most welcome adjunct to the architectural history of the town. It shows -mss uniquely precious is the heritage of this form of art in Cheltenham and it will strengthen the hands of all those responsible for looking after it

The research for this book   been most thorough, and Miss Chatwin must be congratulated on her selection of interesting quotations, such as William Cobbetts new row of most gaudy and fantastical dwelling places called   Columbia Place", (now attributed to William Jay architect of Savannah) and here Miss Chatwin rightly points out "cast iron has found its own nobility. although the condition is so bad it is difficult to find a complete example in the terrace."
